Content is King 📺
Cable TV is dying. 'Cord-cutting' is the trend of cancelling cable for Streaming Services (Netflix, Disney+, HBO). Originally, this was cheaper. Now, with so many subscriptions, it is becoming expensive again ('Subscription Fatigue').
Platforms are spending billions on 'Original Content' to lock you in. This created the 'Golden Age of TV', but also a fragmented landscape. Movies are now often released directly to streaming, threatening the survival of 'Cinema Chains'.
The strike by Hollywood writers and actors highlighted the dark side: 'Residuals' (royalty payments) are tiny on streaming compared to TV, and AI threatens to replace background actors.
