Can a River Sue? ⚖️
A new legal movement is granting 'Personhood' to nature. The Whanganui River in New Zealand and the Amazon in Colombia have been recognized as legal entities with rights. This means guardians can sue polluters on behalf of the river.
Traditionally, law treats nature as property. This shift argues nature has an intrinsic right to exist and regenerate. It creates a duty of care, shifting from 'Right to Exploit' to 'Responsibility to Protect'.
