All for One, One for All 🛡️
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is the world's most powerful military alliance. Its core principle is 'Collective Defense', enshrined in Article 5: an attack on one member is an attack on all. This discouraged Soviet aggression during the Cold War.
Recently, NATO has expanded, causing tension with Russia, which views this as 'Encirclement'. The invasion of Ukraine revitalized the alliance, prompting neutral countries like Finland and Sweden to join.
Critics, however, call it 'Obsolete' or expensive, arguing members don't pay their fair share (2% of GDP). The debate asks: does a strong alliance prevent war through deterrence, or provoke war by threatening rivals?
