People on the Move 🚶
Conflict, poverty, and climate change are displacing millions. A 'Refugee' is someone fleeing war or persecution who crosses an international border. They have legal rights under international law. An 'Economic Migrant' is someone moving for a better job; they do not have the same protections.
This distinction is the heart of the crisis. Asylum Seekers arrive at borders asking for protection, but the process to verify their claims takes years. Countries are overwhelmed. Some build walls (Physical Barriers), others attempt 'Offshoring' (sending migrants to other countries while processing).
Humanitarian groups call for compassion and safe routes, arguing that integration helps economies with aging populations. Nationalists argue for strict border control to protect national identity and security. It is one of the most polarizing issues of our time.
