The Silent Weapon 🚫

When a country violates international law—invades a neighbor, develops illegal nukes, or abuses human rights—the global community often responds with Economic Sanctions. These are penalties applied by one or more countries against a targeted nation, group, or individual.

Sanctions can take many forms: trade embargoes (banning exports/imports), asset freezes (locking bank accounts), or travel bans. The goal is to cripple the target's economy, forcing them to change behavior without engaging in actual military combat.

However, the effectiveness of sanctions is debated. Critics argue they often hurt the civilian population more than the ruling elite (who have hidden wealth). Furthermore, targeted nations often find 'workarounds' by trading with other rogue states or using black markets. Sanctions require global unity to work; leaks in the blockades weaken them.
