The End of Combustion? 🚗
The automotive industry is undergoing its biggest transformation in a century. The transition from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) to Electric Vehicles (EVs) is accelerating, driven by climate goals and government mandates banning gas car sales by 2035 in many regions. Companies like Tesla led the charge, but legacy automakers (Ford, Toyota, VW) are pivoting massive resources to catch up.
The main hurdle remains 'Range Anxiety'—the fear of running out of power—and the need for widespread charging infrastructure. Battery technology is the key battleground. Engineers are racing to develop Solid State Batteries, which promise faster charging, higher density, and better safety than current Lithium-Ion tech.
Simultaneously, the race for Autonomous Driving (Self-driving) continues. While 'Level 5' full automation (no steering wheel needed) is harder than predicted, 'Level 2/3' driver assist systems are becoming standard. This raises liability questions: if a self-driving car crashes, who is responsible? The driver, the manufacturer, or the software coder?
