The Quantified Self ⌚
Medicine is moving from 'reactive' (fixing you when sick) to 'proactive' (keeping you healthy). Wearable tech like the Apple Watch, Oura Ring, and Whoop strap are leading this charge. These devices track metrics like Heart Rate Variability (HRV), Blood Oxygen, and Sleep Stages with clinical-grade accuracy.
The constant data stream allows users to 'biohack' their lifestyle—adjusting diet, exercise, and recovery based on data. For example, seeing that alcohol destroys sleep quality encourages people to drink less. Future wearables promise non-invasive blood glucose monitoring (crucial for diabetics) and blood pressure sensing.
However, this raises privacy concerns. Health data is the most sensitive personal info exists. Who owns it? Can insurance companies use your watch data to deny you coverage if you don't exercise enough? The line between helpful monitoring and surveillance is thinning.
