Article

A, An, or The? 🤔

These words appear in almost every sentence.

Indefinite Articles: A / An

Use for one thing, when we don't know specifically which one, or it's the first time we mention it.

  • I bought a car. (Any car).
  • Use A before consonant sounds: A dog, A university (sounds like 'y').
  • Use An before vowel sounds: An apple, An hour (h is silent).

Definite Article: The

Use for specific things, when the listener knows exactly which one.

  • I bought a car. The car is red. (We know which one now).
  • Use for unique things: The sun, The internet.
