We use Wish to talk about things we want to be different.

  1. Wish + Past Simple: Want to change Present.
    • "I wish I was/were rich." (Fact: I am poor).
    • "I wish I had a car." (Fact: I don't).
  2. Wish + Past Perfect: Regret about Past.
    • "I wish I had eaten breakfast." (Fact: I didn't, now I'm hungry).
  3. Wish + Would: Annoying habits / Want someone ELSE to change.
    • "I wish you would stop talking!"
