To R or Not to R? 🏴‍☠️

  1. Rhoticity (The R):
    • US (Rhotic): Pronounce EVERY 'R'. Car -> /kɑːr/. Hard -> /hɑːrd/.
    • UK (Non-Rhotic): Silent 'R' after vowels. Car -> /kɑː/. Hard -> /hɑːd/. The R only stretches the vowel.
  2. The T:
    • US: Often creates a 'Flap T' (Fast D) between vowels. Water -> Wa-der.
    • UK: keeps the true T. Water -> Wa-tuh (or Glottal stop Wa-uh).
